Octwin vs
Meta Business Agent

On 1 October 2026, WhatsApp service messages stop being free. If you answer customers with an AI agent, you get a bill for the first time — so it is worth knowing what a conversation will cost you, and why the two ways of running one are priced so differently.

Where the 4.5 cents comes from

Meta's figures, in Meta's words

Every Business Agent number on this page rests on two published facts and one multiplication. Both facts are Meta's own, quoted here so you can check the arithmetic rather than trust it.

Fact 1 — the rate

“Effective August 1, 2026, Meta will charge on a per-token basis for Meta Business Agent messages.”

“One global rate of $2.00 USD per 1M tokens.”

Meta for Developers — Pricing, non-template messages. One rate, every market, covering the AI and the message delivery together.
Fact 2 — the tokens

“One message typically consumes about 20,000–25,000 tokens, which translates to approximately 4–5 cents (USD) per message.”

Meta for Developers — Pricing, non-template messages. Charges “reflect the token consumption to ingest the user’s message (the prompt) and to generate a response” — so every reply is metered, not every conversation.

Per message delivered$0.045

22,500 is the midpoint of Meta's own 20,000–25,000 range. Take the low end and the figure is $0.040; take the high end and it is $0.050. The comparison on this page does not turn on which you pick — Meta's own sentence lands in the same place, “approximately 4–5 cents per message.” Because the tokens cover the incoming message plus the whole context needed to answer it, a long conversation sits at the top of that range rather than the bottom.

Run your own numbers

Every figure here is yours to change

The number doing the most work is the AI cost per reply. It is an input, not a footnote — push it to the top of the range and see how little the answer moves.

Your market

When a customer taps a button or picks from a list, Octwin already knows the answer, so no AI is used. Meta Business Agent charges full price for these too.

A typical average for a reply the AI has to write. Take it up to $0.010 — double — and see how little changes.

Octwin Business Agent Messages sent to customers Replies charged as AI AI WhatsApp delivery Total a month

These are the WhatsApp and AI running costs on either option. Any platform subscription is separate, and WhatsApp's 1,000 free messages a month per number are not counted — so your real Octwin cost is a little lower than shown.

Where the gap comes from

Two reasons you can watch move in the calculator above, and a third the calculator does not even count in our favour.

A menu tap costs you nothing in AI

When a customer taps a button or picks from a list, Octwin already knows the answer and sends it straight back — no AI is used, so that reply costs you nothing beyond the message itself. Meta Business Agent is billed on tokens, so a message that simply offers three options costs you the same as one that answers a hard question.

Around 60% of replies in a menu-led conversation

Meta charges one price worldwide. Your market doesn't.

Meta Business Agent costs the same wherever your customers are — the rate does not change between one country and the next. WhatsApp's own delivery fee does. In Egypt it is $0.0036 a message, so on Octwin you pay your own market's rate instead of a worldwide average.

Free messages we have not counted

From October, every WhatsApp number you run gets 1,000 free service messages a month, and if you run several numbers you get the allowance on each. The calculator above ignores this entirely, so the Octwin figures it shows are a little higher than what you would really pay. We would rather be wrong in that direction.

The rates behind these numbers

Published by Meta, effective 1 Oct 2026

Your market's row is highlighted. A service message costs the same as a utility or authentication message in that country. The Business Agent column does not change by country — and it is the per-message figure worked out from Meta's $2.00 per million tokens above, not a separate published price.

WhatsApp service message rates by market, against the Meta Business Agent flat rate
Market Calling code Service message Meta Business Agent
Egypt+20$0.0036$0.045
Saudi Arabia+966$0.0107$0.045
Pakistan+92$0.0150$0.045
UAE+971$0.0157$0.045

Meta prices every country separately, and this is not the full card. Several markets in the region — Kuwait, Oman, Iraq and Morocco among them — move onto brand new rates on 1 October 2026, and others are priced regionally. Ask us for your country and we will quote it from Meta's current rate card rather than an estimate.

What this comparison does not say

Meta Business Agent's real advantage is that you build nothing

For 4–5 cents a message it answers your customers with nothing to set up. That is a real offer, and price is not the reason to turn it down. The reason to choose Octwin is what the agent can actually do — check an order, keep a case open until it is finished, take a booking, follow the way your business already works. A general-purpose assistant is not built for any of that.

The gap is not the same everywhere. It is widest in Egypt and narrowest in Pakistan, where WhatsApp charges about four times as much to deliver a message. Octwin still costs less in all three — but use the picker at the top and read your own market's number, not the best one we could find.

Every Business Agent figure here is Meta's own, worked out above from their published rate and their published token estimate. The AI cost per reply is the only number on this page that is not Meta's — which is exactly why you can change it.
